Comprehensive Clogged Drain Repair in Simi Valley, CA

Comprehensive Clogged Drain Repair in Simi Valley, CA by Team Rooter Plumbing

At Team Rooter Plumbing, we recently addressed a challenging clogged drain issue in Simi Valley, CA. This blog post details each step of our thorough repair process, ensuring optimal functionality and customer satisfaction. Read on to discover how we tackled this project and the expert solutions we provided.

Step 1: Cable Service to Clear the Blockage

Our team began by performing a cable service from the main line clean-out access located in the garage. This initial step was crucial to attempt clearing the blockage causing water to back up in the toilet and shower. Using our advanced cable equipment, we successfully removed the immediate obstruction.

Step 2: Camera Inspection to Identify Remaining Issues

After clearing the initial blockage, we conducted a camera inspection to assess the condition of the pipes. This inspection revealed a heavy buildup of toilet paper still holding within the line. The use of our high-definition camera allowed us to pinpoint the exact location and extent of the buildup.

Step 3: Hydrojetting to Flush Out Buildup

To address the remaining blockage, we performed a hydrojetter service. This powerful technique involves using high-pressure water jets to flush out the toilet paper buildup within the line. The hydrojetting process effectively cleared the line, ensuring smooth water flow and preventing future clogs.

Step 4: Check Valve Inspection and Replacement

During our post-hydrojetting inspection, we discovered that the check valve for the line had failed. The check valve was not closing properly due to a broken connection and malfunctioning flapper. This failure was causing paper to hold in the line, leading to repeated blockages.

Step 5: Spot Repair for Check Valve Replacement

To resolve the check valve issue, we performed a spot repair where the check valve was located. Our technician carefully dug in front of the home, near the water manifold, to access and replace the damaged check valve. We used Schedule 40 ABS plastic pipe, fittings, and proper bands to ensure a durable and long-lasting repair.

Step 6: Final Testing and Warranty Information

After completing the repair, we conducted thorough testing to ensure the system was functioning correctly. Our work comes with a 5-year labor warranty and a 1-year warranty for blockages, providing our clients with peace of mind and assurance of our quality craftsmanship.

Why Insurance Companies Require Shutoff Valves & Why the Moen Smart Flo Shutoff Valve is the Best Choice

Why Insurance Companies are Requiring Shutoff Valves to Continue Coverage

Water damage is one of the most common and expensive problems homeowners face. To help prevent this, some insurance companies are starting to require shutoff valves in homes. In this article, we’ll explain why these valves are important, which insurance companies are making them a requirement, and why the Moen Smart Flo Shutoff Valve and Monitor is the best option on the market. Plus, we’ll share how Team Rooter Plumbing can help you with a special installation offer.

Why Are Insurance Companies Requiring Shutoff Valves?

Water damage can be extremely costly to repair. It can ruin floors, walls, furniture, and even the foundation of your home. To avoid paying out large sums for water damage claims, insurance companies are now requiring homeowners to install shutoff valves. These devices can detect leaks and shut off the water supply automatically, preventing major damage.

Insurance Companies Requiring Shutoff Valves

Several insurance companies are starting to see the benefits of shutoff valves and are either requiring them or offering discounts for having them installed. Here are a few examples:

  1. American Family Insurance: American Family Insurance is encouraging their policyholders to install smart shutoff valves. They recognize that these devices can prevent costly water damage, leading to fewer claims and lower costs for everyone.

  2. Liberty Mutual: Liberty Mutual is another insurance company that is on board with the benefits of smart shutoff valves. They offer incentives to homeowners who install these devices, helping to protect homes and reduce insurance claims.

When to Replace Your Water Heater

On average, a water heater should be replaced every 8 to 12 years. However, this can vary depending on how much you use it, the model, and how well you maintain it. But why wait for it to break down completely? Getting ahead of the game by replacing your water heater can save you from unexpected cold showers and higher repair costs in the long run.

An upgrade means more consistent and reliable hot water. You won’t have to worry about running out of hot water in the middle of your shower anymore!

Space Savings

Modern water heaters are often more compact and can fit more easily into your home, giving you more room for other things.

Ultimate Spring Plumbing Checklist for Every Homeowner

Ultimate Spring Plumbing Checklist for Every Homeowner

Spring is not just a time for cleaning your home; it’s also the perfect season to check and maintain your plumbing system. After the long winter months, your pipes, faucets, and the entire plumbing system can greatly benefit from a thorough check-up to prevent any issues from arising during the warmer months. Team Rooter Plumbing brings you a comprehensive spring plumbing checklist filled with DIY tips and professional advice to keep your home’s plumbing in top shape. Whether it’s drain cleaning, hydro-jetting services, or just routine maintenance, we’ve got you covered for all residential and commercial plumbing needs.

Ultimate Spring Plumbing Checklist for Every Homeowner

Inspect Pipes for Leaks

Winter can be harsh on your pipes. With the thawing of spring, it’s crucial to check all exposed pipes for signs of leakage.

DIY Tip
Visually inspect pipes in your basement, crawl space, and utility areas for any signs of moisture or drips. Listen for leaks you can’t see.

Leak Detection & Repair
If the leak is due to corrosion or if you’re uncomfortable doing the repair yourself, it’s time to call in the experts. Persistent leaks can lead to higher water bills and water damage.

Ultimate Spring Plumbing Checklist for Every Homeowner

Clear Out Gutters & Downspouts

Clogged gutters can lead to water damage on your roof and walls. Make sure they’re clear of debris to allow proper drainage away from your home.

DIY Tip:
Safely use a ladder to remove leaves, twigs, and debris from your gutters and check downspouts for blockages, using a hose to flush them out.

Ultimate Spring Plumbing Checklist for Every Homeowner

Prepare Your Water Heater

After working hard during the winter, your water heater needs a check-up to continue providing hot water efficiently.

DIY Check:
Drain a few gallons from the water heater tank to remove sediment. Check the temperature setting to ensure it’s not above 120°F for energy efficiency.

Expert Water Heater Repair or Replacement
If you notice noise, leaks, or rust, or if the system is older than 10 years, consider scheduling a professional inspection or discussing replacement options.

Ultimate Spring Plumbing Checklist for Every Homeowner

Inspect and Clean Showerheads & Aerators

Mineral buildup can affect water pressure and quality. Cleaning your showerheads and faucet aerators is an easy spring task.

DIY Cleaning:
Soak aerators and showerheads in vinegar overnight to dissolve mineral deposits, then rinse with water.

When to Call a Pro
If you notice reduced water pressure even after cleaning, it could be a sign of a more significant issue in your plumbing system.

Ultimate Spring Plumbing Checklist for Every Homeowner

Schedule Drain Cleaning

Regular drain maintenance can prevent clogs and ensure your system is ready for increased usage in warmer months.

DIY Maintenance:
Use a homemade mixture of vinegar and hot water to flush your drains, keeping them free from minor clogs and odors.

Professional Drain Cleaning
For deep clogs or if you’re experiencing multiple slow drains, professional drain cleaning or hydro-jetting might be necessary.

Ultimate Spring Plumbing Checklist for Every Homeowner

Check Faucets for Drips or Leaks

Outdoor and indoor faucets should be checked for leaks, a common issue after the cold months.

DIY Fix:
Replace washers or gaskets in leaky faucets. Tighten any loose parts and check for improvement.

Leak Detection & Repair
Persistent leaks or issues with water pressure may indicate a deeper problem. In such cases, contacting a plumber is advisable.

Ultimate Spring Plumbing Checklist for Every Homeowner

Assess Your Irrigation System

Before you start watering your garden, ensure your irrigation system hasn’t suffered damage over the winter.

DIY Inspection:
Check for leaks, broken sprinkler heads, and ensure the system covers all areas of your lawn evenly.

How to Unclog Your Drain in 5 Easy Steps

How to Unclog Your Drain in 5 Easy Steps

Clogged drains are a common nuisance in households across Los Angeles, California, leading many residents to seek quick and efficient solutions. Whether it’s your kitchen sink, bathroom sink, or shower drain that’s giving you trouble, there are several DIY fixes you can try before calling in the professionals.

This article will guide you through the process of unclogging your drain using simple, household items, ensuring your plumbing remains in top condition. Keep in mind, for more complex issues like water heater replacements or deeper drain cleaning services in Los Angeles, it might be necessary to contact a residential plumbing expert.

Begin with the Basics: Boiling Water

Step 1: Boil a Pot of Water

Boiling water can often dislodge minor clogs caused by soap scum and grease.

Instructions:
Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil. Carefully pour the boiling water directly down the drain. This method is quick, easy, and environmentally friendly. However, it’s essential to use caution to avoid burns and to ensure that your pipes are not made of materials that can be damaged by boiling water.

The Natural Solution: Baking Soda and Vinegar

Step 2: Utilize Baking Soda and Vinegar

This tried-and-true method harnesses the chemical reaction between baking soda and vinegar to clear your drain.

Instructions:

  1. Pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by half a cup of white vinegar.
  2. Cover the drain with a plug or a wet cloth to keep the reaction contained.
  3. Wait for 15-30 minutes, then rinse with hot water.

This natural solution is excellent for those seeking eco-friendly methods and can effectively remove organic material causing blockages.

Manual Removal: Plumbing Snake or Wire Hanger

Step 3: Clear the Clog with a Plumbing Snake

For more stubborn clogs, a plumbing snake or a straightened wire hanger can be used to physically remove the blockage.

Instructions:

  1. Straighten a wire coat hanger, leaving a small hook at one end.
  2. Gently insert the hook end into the drain and fish for the clog.
  3. Once you’ve hooked the debris, carefully pull it out.

This method can be particularly effective for hair clogs in bathroom drains.

Prevention: Hot Water Flush

Step 4: Regular Maintenance with Hot Water

Preventing clogs is just as important as knowing how to fix them. A regular flush with hot water can keep oils and other materials from building up.

Instructions:

  1. Weekly, pour a kettle of hot water down your drains.

This preventative measure can save you from future clogs and the need for harsh chemicals.

When to Call a Professional

Step 5: Recognize When You Need Help

Sometimes, a clog is too tough for household remedies, indicating a deeper issue that requires professional drain cleaning or inspection.

Warning Signs:

  • Multiple clogged drains.
  • Bad odors emanating from the drain.
  • Water backing up in other fixtures.

In these cases, it’s best to consult with a professional plumber like Team Rooter Plumbing who specializes in drain cleaning to avoid causing further damage to your plumbing system.

Safety Tips & Considerations

  • Always wear protective gloves to safeguard your hands.
  • Be cautious when using boiling water, especially around children and pets.
  • Avoid chemical drain cleaners as they can damage your pipes and are harmful to the environment.

Main Sewer Line repair in Santa Ana, CA

Main Line Trench-less Repair in Sunland, CA

Plumbing Services Performed:

• Hydrojetting
• Trench-less Sewer Repair
• Sewer Line Camera Inspection

Team Rooter Orange County was called out for a main line backup up in Santa Ana, CA.

Our scope of work entailed an extensive excavation beneath the home, covering a total distance of approximately 60 feet. This was necessary to fully expose and access the cast iron main line for replacement.

We conducted a full redrain, replacing all horizontal pipes located under the home. This included the integration of a 2-inch kitchen line, connections for two bathroom sinks, and the plumbing for two showers/tubs.

A significant part of our project involved replacing the 4-inch mainline, which runs under the home for about 60 feet. This replacement was critical, not only to enhance the efficiency of the sewer system but also to ensure long-term reliability. We removed the old cast iron pipes, addressing any challenges presented by the crawl space, and replaced them with high-quality ABS plastic. This material is known for its durability and resistance to corrosion, making it an ideal choice for main sewer line repairs. All pipe connections were secured using ARC couplings.

Upon completion of the installation, Team Rooter we hauled away all the discarded cast iron pipe, ensuring a clean and safe environment around the home. Our commitment to excellence and attention to detail in every aspect of the job reflects our dedication to providing the best plumbing services.

Main Line Trench-less Repair in Sunland, CA

Plumbing Services Performed:

• Hydrojetting
• Trench-less Sewer Repair
• Sewer Line Camera Inspection

Recently, our plumbing team completed a trenchless pipe repair on the main sewer line of a property. The project involved creating three access points within the property to address the issue.

Our first task was to open an access point at the location of the cleanout. This required us to carefully remove a section of the cement walkway, ensuring that we could replace it after completing the job. The second access point was in the middle of the driveway. Here, we removed a 4×4 section of the surface and dug about 4 feet deep to reach the sewer line, specifically at the points where it turned at 90 and 45 degrees.

The third access point was near the sidewalk and driveway. We opened up another 4×4 section and dug down approximately 5 to 6 feet to access the clay pipe. Once we exposed all three areas, our team performed a 58-foot pipe bursting operation on a 4-inch section of the sewer line. This advanced method involved breaking and expanding the old sewer line while simultaneously installing a new, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe.

After pulling the new pipe into place, we made connections using ABS plastic and fittings. We also added a new cleanout for easier maintenance in the future. To ensure the quality of our work, we conducted a camera inspection of the new pipeline. This project demonstrated our commitment to efficient, minimally invasive plumbing solutions, providing long-lasting results for the property.

Trench-Less Sewer Line Repair in East Hollywood, CA

Plumbing Services Performed:
• Hydrojetting
• Trench-less Sewer Repair
• Sewer Line Camera Inspection

In our recent project, we successfully tackled a challenging task: fixing a 60-foot long section of the main sewer line made of clay, which ran beneath a driveway. The pipe had issues like breaks, shifts, and roots growing into it. Our solution was a trenchless pipe repair, known as pipe bursting.

To start, we had to create two 4×4 foot access points. The first one was right under the asphalt of the driveway. We used saws and jackhammers to cut through the asphalt and then dug 3 1/2 feet down to reach the pipe. The second point was in the front yard, near the main gate and the property line. This one was deeper, about 6 feet.

Safety was a top priority, so we brought all the necessary safety equipment to the site. Once we prepared the holes, we used a special hydraulic machine for the pipe bursting process. This machine pulled a new pipe into place, replacing the old one without the need to dig up the entire sewer line under the driveway.

We used high-quality ABS plastic pipes and RC shielded bands for the connections, as required by city regulations. To ensure everything was working perfectly, we ran water through the new system to check for leaks. After confirming there were no issues, we filled the holes back in and compacted the soil for stability. Where we had removed asphalt, we replaced it with concrete.

The entire project, from start to finish, took us 4 to 5 days. We’re proud to offer a 25-year warranty on this repair. Plus, the customer benefited from a 20% discount on the original price. This project not only solved the immediate problem but also ensured long-lasting, reliable sewer service for the property.
