Trenchless Sewer Line Repair in Canoga Park, CA
Corrosion in the driveway sewer line and restricted pipe diameter toward the home. Team Rooter cut a 4×4 section in the driveway, installed a cleanout, performed a pipe burst to replace the line, camera-inspected throughout, and descaled inward toward the home to restore full pipe diameter.
Pipe Burst, Descaling & Camera Inspection — Canoga Park, CA
This Canoga Park home had a sewer line that was both structurally compromised and restricted in diameter due to corrosion buildup. Our technician cut a 4×4 section in the driveway to gain access to the broken section, installed a new cleanout at that point, and used the pipe burst method to replace the existing sewer line on the property.
A camera inspection was performed throughout to observe the full condition of the pipe and confirm the replacement was seated correctly. Additionally, the technician descaled inward from the access point toward the home — using specialized grinding equipment to remove corrosion buildup from the pipe walls and restore as much of the original pipe diameter as possible. All work is warranted on parts and labor.
How We Got the Job Done
Inspect the full line to determine scope before cutting the driveway
A camera run through the existing cleanout established the condition of the pipe, identified the broken section's location, and confirmed corrosion buildup restricting flow toward the home. This drove every subsequent decision — the right access point, the extent of pipe burst, and where descaling was needed.
Cut a 4×4 section in the driveway to reach the pipe
A 4×4 driveway cut gave us access to the broken section of sewer pipe below. The access point was chosen based on camera findings — precisely placed to minimize surface disruption while giving us the clearance needed for the pipe burst operation and cleanout installation.
Install a new cleanout at the access point
A new cleanout was installed at the driveway access point before the pipe burst — giving permanent above-ground access to both the new pipe run and the descaled section. Future service calls can use the cleanout without cutting the driveway again.
Replace the existing sewer line using the pipe burst method
From the driveway access point, the pipe burst method was used to fracture and displace the old sewer line while pulling new pipe behind the bursting head. The result is a new, continuous sewer pipe in the same path — without excavating the full run.
Descale inward toward the home to restore pipe diameter
From the cleanout, specialized descaling equipment was run inward toward the home — grinding down corrosion buildup on the pipe walls to restore as much of the original interior diameter as possible. Better flow, fewer future blockages, and a cleaner pipe surface that resists new buildup.
What This Job Required
Camera Line Inspection
Full-run video inspection to locate the broken section, confirm corrosion levels, and plan the repair scope before cutting the driveway.
Driveway Access Cut (4×4)
Precision 4×4 driveway cut to access the broken section — located based on camera findings to minimize surface disturbance.
Cleanout Installation
New cleanout installed at the driveway access point — permanent service access for all future maintenance without re-cutting the driveway.
Trenchless Pipe Burst
New sewer pipe pulled through the existing line via pipe burst — fractures old pipe outward, installs new pipe in one pass without full excavation.
Pipe Descaling
Specialized grinding equipment removes corrosion buildup from pipe walls inward toward the home — restores flow diameter and reduces future blockage risk.
Post-Repair Camera Verification
Camera run after pipe burst and descaling to confirm new pipe alignment, cleanout connection, and clear flow path throughout the repaired section.
Why Sewer Corrosion Is a Common Problem in Canoga Park
Canoga Park is part of the western San Fernando Valley — an area developed heavily in the 1950s and 1960s when cast iron was the standard material for residential sewer laterals. Cast iron corrodes from the inside out over decades of hydrogen sulfide exposure, and the San Fernando Valley's warm climate and older housing stock mean many laterals are now showing the effects of 60–70 years of service.
Corrosion doesn't just weaken the pipe — it reduces interior diameter over time, creating chronic slow drainage and repeated blockages that clear temporarily but always come back. Descaling removes the buildup, and pipe burst replaces the structurally compromised sections. Camera inspection before either procedure confirms exactly what's needed.

Last weekend the sewer backup to bathroom again. Called their customer service, unfortunately all the serviceman are out at the time, I got a local plumber came right way to clean out the blockage. Next day called Team Rooter reported the problem, a supervisor discuss the situation with me by phone and offered sending a technician to site to investigate. Mr. James Craig came with Cam Video the next day found tree roots break into pipe through a coupler. He immediately authorized a repair job: to break the concrete, dig 3 ft down to reach and replace the broken pipe coupler. Two men crew showed up next day completed the job which could value of thousands dollars but all under warranty. A special thanks to Mr. James Craig, his is knowledgeable and friendly. Trenchless Sewer Repair in Canoga Park — FAQs
What is pipe descaling and why is it needed?
Descaling removes mineral and corrosion buildup from inside the pipe walls using specialized grinding or chain-cutting equipment. Over decades of use, cast iron pipes develop hard deposits that reduce the pipe's interior diameter — causing slow drainage and frequent blockages even when there's no structural break. Descaling restores flow capacity without replacing the pipe. On this Canoga Park job, descaling was performed inward toward the home after the pipe burst addressed the broken section at the driveway.
Why cut the driveway instead of using a different access point?
Access point selection is driven by camera inspection — the camera shows exactly where the damaged section is and where the cleanout needs to be placed for optimal serviceability. On this job, the driveway was the correct location because it aligned with the broken section of pipe and allowed cleanout placement that covers both the pipe burst section and the descaled run toward the home. Precise access minimizes surface disturbance and avoids unnecessary excavation.
Can the driveway be repaired after cutting?
Yes. After the cleanout is installed and the repair is complete, the driveway access point is backfilled and patched. The cleanout cap is set flush with or just above the driveway surface. The finished result leaves a clean, accessible cleanout port and a restored driveway surface — no ongoing open trench.
What causes cast iron sewer lines to corrode in the San Fernando Valley?
Hydrogen sulfide gas — a byproduct of bacterial activity inside sewer pipes — reacts with moisture to form sulfuric acid that attacks the pipe interior. This process is continuous and accelerates as the pipe ages. Most cast iron laterals installed in the 1950s–1960s in the San Fernando Valley, including Canoga Park, are well past their effective service life. Corrosion may be mild (surface buildup reducing diameter) or severe (full pipe-wall failure), and camera inspection tells you which one you're dealing with.
How soon can Team Rooter respond in Canoga Park?

Trenchless pipe burst and descaling projects are typically scheduled within 1–2 business days after camera diagnosis confirms scope. 24/7 emergency response is available at (800) 818-2397 for active backups or flooding.
