Spot Repair in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
Broken pipe in front of the home required hand-digging to reach, no mechanical access available. Team Rooter manually excavated a 4×4 hole, repaired the broken section, installed a new cleanout, and warranted every bit of it — parts and labor.
Broken Pipe, No Machine Access — Manual Excavation Was the Only Option
This Rancho Palos Verdes home had a broken section of pipe located in front of the property — but the terrain and landscaping made mechanical access impossible. Our crew had to hand-dig a 4×4 hole to reach the pipe, working down carefully to avoid damage to surrounding landscaping and hardscape.
Once exposed, we repaired the broken section and installed a new cleanout at the front of the home — providing permanent future maintenance access so any future service can be performed from the cleanout without excavating again. All work is warranted on parts and labor.
Spot repair is the right choice when damage is limited to a discrete section and the surrounding pipe is sound. Camera inspection confirmed both before we picked up a shovel — which is always our first step.
How We Got the Job Done
Confirm damage location and verify surrounding pipe condition
A camera inspection run from the cleanout showed the broken section's exact location and confirmed the pipe on either side was in acceptable condition. This is what justified a spot repair rather than a larger trench replacement, and it gave us the precise target for excavation.
Hand-dig a 4×4 hole to reach the pipe
With no mechanical access available at the front of the home, our technicians manually excavated a 4×4 hole to reach the broken section. Hand-digging requires more labor but protects surrounding landscaping and hardscape that equipment would damage.
Remove and replace the broken pipe section
The broken section was cut out and replaced with new pipe, properly fitted and sealed. The repair was verified for alignment and flow before we moved to the next step. No unnecessary additional pipe was disturbed.
Install a new cleanout — permanent access for all future service
A new cleanout was installed at the access point. Future drain clearing, camera inspections, or any additional work can now be performed through the cleanout without excavation. It's a permanent improvement to the property's plumbing system, not just a repair.
Backfill the excavation and restore the site
The 4×4 excavation was backfilled, compacted, and the site was cleaned up. The cleanout cap was set flush and accessible. All work warranted on parts and labor.

Why Pipe Problems in Rancho Palos Verdes Require Special Attention
Rancho Palos Verdes sits on the Palos Verdes Peninsula — hillside terrain with significant soil movement history and many homes built in the 1950s through 1970s with original clay or cast iron sewer laterals still in service. Soil creep and subsidence on the hill affect pipe slope and joint integrity over time, even on pipes that were correctly installed.
Access on the Peninsula is often constrained — narrow side yards, steep grades, and mature landscaping mean that mechanical excavation equipment can't always get where it needs to go. Manual excavation, as performed on this job, is sometimes the only option that doesn't damage the property. Our crews are experienced with manual access work and carry the right equipment for hand-dig jobs of any depth.
- Camera inspection before any repair recommendation
- Experienced with hillside terrain and constrained-access jobs
- Manual excavation capability — no equipment required for access
- New cleanout on every applicable spot repair — permanent access
- Licensed, bonded, insured — warranty on parts and labor

Team Rooter is an honest company to do business! They take care the job warranty without a question. Three years ago they repaired my sewer line with trenchless sewer pipe replacement. Last weekend the sewer backup to bathroom again. Called their customer service, unfortunately all the serviceman are out at the time, I got a local plumber came right way to clean out the blockage. Next day called Team Rooter reported the problem, a supervisor discuss the situation with me by phone and offered sending a technician to site to investigate. Mr. James Craig came with Cam Video the next day found tree roots break into pipe through a coupler. He immediately authorized a repair job: to break the concrete, dig 3 ft down to reach and replace the broken pipe coupler. Two men crew showed up next day completed the job which could value of thousands dollars but all under warranty. A special thanks to Mr. James Craig, his is knowledgeable and friendly. His kindly smile really comforts my anxiety. I would highly recommend Team Rooter for any plumber problem because rest assure they will come back to fulfill their promise.Posted on Google![]()

Spot Repair in Rancho Palos Verdes — FAQs
What is a spot repair and how is it different from full sewer replacement?
A spot repair targets only the section of pipe that is broken or damaged. The pipe on either side is left in place. Full sewer replacement involves removing the entire line from the house to the city connection. Camera inspection tells us which one is appropriate — if the rest of the pipe is sound, a spot repair is the right scope and costs a fraction of full replacement.
Why was manual excavation required instead of a machine?
The pipe was located in front of the home in an area where mechanical excavation equipment couldn't access without damaging the surrounding landscaping, hardscape, or slope. Hand-digging a 4×4 hole takes more labor but protects the property and is sometimes the only viable option on hillside terrain like Rancho Palos Verdes. Our crews are equipped and experienced for manual access jobs.
Why is a cleanout installed at the same time as a spot repair?
A cleanout gives permanent above-ground access to the sewer line at that point. Once installed, any future drain clearing, camera inspection, or hydrojetting can be performed through the cleanout — without excavating again. It's a permanent improvement that pays for itself the first time service is needed. We install a cleanout on every applicable spot repair.
Are there specific sewer concerns for homes in Rancho Palos Verdes?
Yes. RPV sits on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, which has documented soil creep and subsidence — slow downslope movement of soil that affects buried pipe over time. Joints separate, slope changes, and clay or cast iron laterals from the 1950s–1970s show increased failure rates. Recurring backups, slow drains, or sewer odors in an RPV home are worth investigating with a camera — soil movement is often the underlying cause.
How soon can Team Rooter respond in Rancho Palos Verdes?
Same-day service is available in Rancho Palos Verdes for drain clearing and camera inspection. For a spot repair requiring excavation, we schedule and mobilize quickly — typically within 1–2 business days after camera diagnosis confirms scope. Emergency response is available 24/7 at (800) 818-2397 for active backups or flooding.
